KPU Civic Plaza
Spanning five floors and over 47,000 square feet, KPU’s newest urban campus is located in the heart of downtown Surrey in the Civic Plaza building. The state of the art campus is within walking distance of local restaurants, coffee shops and shopping, neighbouring both Surrey City Hall and the iconic Surrey Centre Library.
This new campus offers a combination of next generation learning spaces within a polished and professional environment. Interconnected stairs link each of the floor to add to the community feel. KPU Civic Plaza was designed as a place for intersections, collaboration and networking. It will
capitalize on its immediate proximity to Surrey City Hall and Surrey’s City Centre Public Library to become an important meeting location for entrepreneurs and working professionals seeking further development, trainingand assessment. The program includes a variety of state-of-the-art classrooms, collegium areas, a testing centre, and innovation centre and support areas. In order to achieve this, the design includes some demountable partitions and operable walls.
Prime Consultant: ZGF Architects
Located in a pedestal beginning on the 5th floor, site constraints provided access and lay-down challenges that the team found innovative solutions for. Throughout the duration of the project, there was clear communication from the Project Manager and Site Superintendent on emergent issues. Any concerns were dealt with in a quick time frame or followed up when more information was available. The team dynamic between Novacom, the consultants and owner was collaborative and proactive to mitigate risk. In turn, trust developed with Novacom knowing that the owner’s interests were at the forefront of decision making.
