For the past 8 years, Novacom has been privileged to help build homes for families in need in El Salvador. We’ve done this through the support of employees travelling to El Salvador to join in the building effort, as well as by helping purchase the materials needed to build the houses. Last year, we took a team of 12 people to the Victoria region of El Salvador, and built 15 homes in one week! To see the stories and watch the video, check out our blog at www.novacom.ca/elsalvador.
This year, Novacom is taking a team of 12-15 to El Salvador from January 7-15, 2017, with the goal of building 15 more houses!
El Salvador is a struggling Central American economy, which has been suffering from a weak tax collection system, factory closings, the aftermaths of Hurricane Ida in 2009, Hurricane Mitch in 1998, the devastating earthquakes of early 2001, and weak world coffee prices. Roughly 55% of El Salvadorans live in rural areas, compared to 24% in the U.S. This more rural composition sets a significantly different social and economic landscape than what we are accustomed to here at home.
The team members will be working alongside local tradespeople to construct the homes. The costs of homes are raised through generous donations from businesses or individuals. All team members are responsible for the costs of their flights, accommodations and meals.
We invite you to join us in the building effort, by helping contribute to the home material costs. The deadline for donations is November 30, allowing enough lead time for the supplier to manufacture the kits before we arrive in January. These pre-fabricated homes are purchased from a local supplier, at a cost of $3,300 CDN each. If you’re able to partner with us, select the level you wish to contribute as follows;
- Platinum Partner (2 Houses) – $6,600
- Gold Partner (1 House) – $3,300
- Silver Partner (1/2 House) – $1,650
- Bronze Partner (1/4 House) – $825
All partners above will receive a framed photograph honoring their contribution.
The organization we’re partnering with on this project is Shelter Canada (www.sheltercanada.ca). All donations for Shelter Canada are managed through The Great Commission Foundation (www.tgcfcanada.org), and are tax receiptable.
